  16. the !Help application is active.

  19. What this software does
  20.  
  21.  This fully RISC-OS compliant multitasking
  22. application allows the plotting of up to eight
  23. graphs on the same set of axes. Each set of data
  24. may contain up to 200 data points, and the line
  25. associated with the points may have up to 200
  26. segments. Suitable data files may be produced
  27. using e.g. !GraphDraw, !FnPlotter or !CurveFit.
  28. This application does not allow the direct entry
  29. of data, and does no data processing. It simply
  30. combines several graphs onto the same set of
  31. scaled axes.

  34. Running the application
  35.  
  36.  As a fully RISC-OS compliant application it can
  37. be started from within the desktop in all the
  38. normal ways. Double clicking on the !MultiPlot
  39. icon in a directory viewer will install its icon
  40. on the icon bar.

  42.  The application may also be started by double
  43. clicking on any !MultiPlot data file in a
  44. directory viewer. This will only work if the
  45. !MultiPlot application has been 'seen' by the
  46. filer, so that the filer knows to run !MultiPlot
  47. before loading the file. If the application is
  48. started in this way, besides the icon appearing on
  49. the icon bar, the icon will show the number of
  50. data files loaded, and the graph window will open.

  53. The Iconbar Menu
  54.  
  55.  Clicking with MENU on the iconbar icon offers the
  56. following options:
  57.   
  58. Info
  59.  The standard information box, with version
  60. number. This is the number that should be quoted
  61. in any communication regarding the application.
  62.  
  63. Help
  64.  Opens this help window
  65.    
  66. Plot type
  67.  This option leads to a submenu allowing
  68. the data to be plotted normally, or with
  69. either the x-axis, the y-axis or both x-
  70. and y- axes on a logarithmic scale. For
  71. speed, simply clicking on the Plot graph
  72. option itself will produce a normal
  73. plot. The program traps (I hope)
  74. attempts to take the log of zero or a
  75. negative number.
  76.  
  77. Choices...
  78.  Selecting this brings up a dialogue box that
  79. allows a range of options to be changed, and these
  80. changes may be made permanent so that they become
  81. the new defaults when the application is
  82. subsequently started.
  83.  
  84.  The choices should be self explanatory. The font
  85. names and size can be changed. To change the font,
  86. simply click on the menu button to the right of
  87. the font name field, when a menu will open with
  88. all the installed fonts shown, from which a choice
  89. can be made. Clicking on the menu button to the
  90. right of the font size field will raise a menu to
  91. choose the new size. The type of line (dashed or
  92. continuous) used for plotting the data lines and
  93. for producing a graph grid for the graph may be
  94. chosen. The thichness of the lines when printing
  95. or exporting drawfiles may also be set.
  96.  
  97.  During data file load, certain error situations
  98. are always reported. However, if the "Give
  99. warnings during load" option is selected, then
  100. additional messages will be displayed during file
  101. load operations, e.g. whether a particular set of
  102. data is just points, or just lines.

  104.  If the "Save graph layout options" is selected,
  105. then all the CURRENT layout settings will be saved
  106. in the default file, otherwise the old layout
  107. default settings will not altered.
  108.  
  109.  The changes will not come into operation until
  110. the Set button is pressed. If the cancel button is
  111. pressed, the dialogue box is removed from the
  112. screen, and the original defaults remain in
  113. effect. The selection can be made the new default
  114. by clicking on the save icon. Note that the
  115. default file is saved within the !MultiPlot
  116. application, therefore, if the application is
  117. being run from a floppy disc, the filer may
  118. request the disc containing the !MultiPlot
  119. application to be inserted in the disc drive.
  120.  
  121. Save Data
  122.  This will lead to a standard "save as" dialogue
  123. box, allowing all the current data to be saved in
  124. the one file in MultiPlot format. This is useful
  125. if you have several lines loaded and wish to save
  126. the complete set. Remember that MultiPlot data
  127. files cannot be loaded into any other
  128. applications, and once a composite data file has
  129. been produced, there is no simple way to extract
  130. the component parts again.
  131.  
  132. Clear data
  133.  Selecting this option will irretrievably clear
  134. all data currently loaded, thus the program checks
  135. with the user before clearing the data. The
  136. iconbar icon will show 'no lines' below it after
  137. this operation.

  139. Quit
  140.  Terminates the application. It is up to the user
  141. to ensure that any data which is to be saved has
  142. been saved before the quit operation is invoked.
